Céline Dassonville

In this new edition of the Masterclasses of Managerial Excellence, we had the pleasure of welcoming Céline Dassonville, founder of Ethiwork, for a captivating discussion on sustainable development and the integration of corporate social responsibility in companies. With a rich and diverse background, Céline Dassonville shares her experience in supporting renowned brands in redefining their CSR strategies and implementing more responsible practices.

A Career Dedicated to Sustainable Transformation

Céline Dassonville began her career as a communication consultant before moving towards CSR transformation projects for major brands such as Accenture, Google, and Richemont. Convinced of the importance of integrating sustainability into the core of the business, she decided to found Ethiwork in 2018. Since then, she has been supporting renowned brands in their transition towards more environmentally and socially responsible practices.

The Evolution of CSR: from a Peripheral Role to a Strategic Priority

Céline observes a major transformation in the perception of CSR in companies. She explains that CSR, initially perceived as risk management for environmental and social issues, is now at the heart of general management strategies. This rapid evolution, occurring mainly since 2017, has been driven by regulatory and societal pressures, as well as increasingly tangible climate changes. She also highlights the role of millennials and younger generations who demand strong commitment to sustainable development from companies, pushing them to rethink their business models.

Luxury as a Lever for Change

As co-founder of the Circular Fashion Federation, Céline emphasizes the impact of the luxury sector in the transition towards more sustainable practices. Luxury, according to her, has a unique power to inspire dreams and influence consumption habits. Major brands like Balenciaga and Petit Bateau are now embracing concepts of second-hand and vintage, an approach that encourages consumers to adopt a more circular approach and extend the lifespan of products. > “The luxury sector, through its media and symbolic influence, can transform imaginaries and initiate new sustainable business models.”

Towards an Exemplary Subcontracting Chain

One of the major challenges in sustainable development remains the management of the subcontracting chain. Céline points out that most large luxury companies have internal resources and skills to manage CSR, but their suppliers and subcontractors don’t always have the same means. She emphasizes the importance of establishing co-management with subcontractors to ensure exemplary practices at every stage of production.

New Approaches for a Sustainable Future

Initiatives such as the revaluation of dormant stocks or the creation of products from recycled materials are multiplying. Céline mentions the development of business models based on rental or customization of old products, such as Studio Paillett, to meet consumer expectations in terms of sustainability and personalization.

A Collective Commitment to Transform the Company

For Céline, a successful transformation requires the involvement of all employees. She calls on general management to integrate CSR into every stage of production and every department of the company, making it a true pillar of strategy. This involves concrete actions, training, and rigorous monitoring of objectives to ensure global awareness and long-term sustainable transformation.

A Shared Responsibility

In conclusion, Céline Dassonville reminds us that the transition towards more responsible and sustainable models requires total involvement, both within companies and in their relationships with partners and subcontractors. This transition, although complex, opens up exciting prospects for the future.
